La Divina Pastora

The Church of La Divina Pastora, Siparia, is “a meeting place of the Peoples” (Ms.Theresa Noel, LDPRC Parish Historian). Siparia, ‘The Place of Sand’ was a meeting place for a number of Orinoco native tribes since pre-Columbian times. The Spanish Capuchin Franciscan Missionaries serving in Venezuela, decided to establish a Mission in the Siparia Community during the mid- 1750s. The Mission at Siparia, one of four established by these Missionaries at that time, was dedicated to Our Lady under the title La Divina Pastora (The Divine Shepherdess). Read more.
