If God is with me then why is this happening?
Luke 9:43-45
When everyone was full of admiration for Jesus, he turned to his disciples and said, “You must have these words constantly in your mind: The Son of Man is going to be handed over to the power of men.” Here, two different realities co-exist: amazement at Christ’s power and lack of understanding for the path of suffering Jesus freely chose.
In our own lives, we may believe in God’s power when things go well but get confused when suffering comes. We ask, “If God is with me then why is this happening?” The disciples remind us that confusion does not necessarily mean unbelief. Sometimes it reveals that God’s way is deeper than our expectations. They were afraid to ask Jesus about this, perhaps in doing so, Jesus may reveal truths we would rather avoid.
Today, let’s bring our questions and sufferings honestly to Jesus, remain close to him in simple prayer when things are confusing and let’s remember to trust him when we don’t fully understand.
