The descent that was a rising

“Take nothing for the journey: neither staff, nor haversack, nor bread, nor money; and do not have a spare tunic.”
Luke 9:1 – 6
In today’s gospel, Jesus gives his disciples some basic principles by which to live and serve.
As missionary disciples, we are called to complete trust and confidence in the Lord as they were. When we face challenges, we should always remember that we don’t need to rely on our limited strength. We can tap into our faith and the authority given to us by virtue of our baptism. This will help us to bring positive changes to our homes and other environments.
When we trust completely in the Lord, we will be empowered to ‘travel light’. We will not be anxious about financial security and ensuring everything is in place before we obey the call of God on our lives and embrace our mission.
We need to self-empty every day, practice minimalism and not let ‘analysis paralysis’ prevent us from helping to build the kingdom here and now. The gifts and graces of our baptismal calling for mission are always available to us through the power of the Holy Spirit.
