Saturday September 19th: Different Soils

There will always be different soils along our journey

Luke 8:4-15

In this Parable of the Sower, Jesus encourages us to reflect on our lives. He is not saying we are stuck in one type of soil forever. Rather, the soils in the parable represent different moments in our journey through life.

Sometimes we feel on the edge of life—uninterested and easily swayed by whatever fad comes along. At other times, we are like seeds thrown on rocky ground. We fool ourselves into thinking we are firmly rooted in our beliefs, but when the moment of truth comes, we succumb to temptation and realize we are not rooted at all. Although we may have good intentions, like the seeds among thorns, we are so caught up in the cares of daily living that we fall short.

Fortunately, there are those occasions when we know we are on the right track, reaping a great harvest. Those are the sacred moments we celebrate. We also know there will always be different soils along our journey.

Thank you, Lord, for this deep insight.
