What Mystery!
John 3:13-17
Today’s Gospel reflects the mystery of the Son of Man – His heavenly origin, His earthly mission and His future glory. Jesus as the Son of Man, ‘came down from heaven’ and ‘must be lifted up.’ This reflects His Divine Authority. But Jesus was fully human at the same time, taking the form of a servant to walk among humanity ‘so that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him;’ not to condemn the world but to save the world. The Son of Man also points to future glory – His and ours. His because He returns to His Father in heaven. The Gospel says, ‘the Son of Man…is in heaven.’ What mystery! For although Jesus was with us on earth, He retained the glory of Heaven at all times.
Our future glory is shown here as a gift from God the Father. He loved us so much that He gave us His Son so that we may not be lost but may have eternal life. All this is possible through belief in Jesus, the Son of Man.
