“Stretch out your hand”
Luke 6:6-11
Today’s Gospel reading is another encounter of Jesus with the Pharisees and the teachers of the law in the synagogue on the Sabbath. This time a man with a shriveled right hand needed healing. They watched closely to find evidence to accuse Him. Jesus knew what they were thinking. He therefore asked the man to stand up so that everyone could see his condition. Then the question. “Which is lawful on the Sabbath; to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it? He then asked the man, “Stretch out your hand.”
What are the takeaways from this passage. Firstly, we must be focused to do what is right despite the circumstances and consequences. Secondly, in order to be helped we must be able to ‘stretch out our hands’ and seek assistance. Thirdly, in order to be discerning we must seek the intervention of the Holy Spirit for courage, wisdom, and understanding in whatever situation we face.
At the end it must always be To God Be the Glory.
