“And who do you say I am?”
Matthew 16:13-20
Lord, this hot Trinidad sun, dust on our feet, evokes a question posed to ancient
Caesarea Philippi…
_ “Who do you say I am?” _
Too often Jesus, we see You dimly…As Sunday school Teacher, but not as One who sits with poor people by the market stall.
As statues, but not as single mother, autistic child, foreigner waiting for handouts…
Who do we say you are?
We built churches but forgot the earth You called “good.”
Rivers choke. Hills get cut. And the least of these still cry…
Forgive us, Rock. Embrace us, Shaky Faith, Peter.
Pass those keys, Peter… we not locking doors, we opening them.
Keys freeing those hungry. Keys freeing those outcast. Keys freeing every tongue and skin in this nation.
Keys so today, drumbeat in our chest and soil under our nails…
seeing You, Jesus, the Christ, the Son of the living God, we embrace You…poor,
we walk with You… marginalized,
we guard You, earth. Unblinded!
