Aid shipped to Venezuela

The first shipment of humanitarian aid collected by Parish Ministries for Migrants and Refugees (PMMRs), the Living Water Community, and Serving Women and Youth (SWAY), a non-governmental Hindu organisation, has been sent to the affected communities.

On Wednesday, August 5, the shipment of donated supplies was loaded onto the vessel Regina Daniela. The vessel departed San Fernando on Thursday 6, bound for Tucupita, Venezuela, where the aid was received by Caritas, which is coordinating relief efforts on the ground in Venezuela.

Coordinator of the Migrant Ministry at St Dominic’s RC Parish in Penal, Cristina John, expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to making the shipment possible.

John said the humanitarian situation in Venezuela remains critical but expressed hope that the donated supplies will bring some comfort to families affected by the disaster.

John also thanked the owner of the Regina Daniela, Daniel Durán, for generously making the vessel available to transport the first phase of aid to Venezuela.

A second shipment of humanitarian aid is expected to be sent to Venezuela in the coming months.
