Tuesday July 7th: The workers are few

“Like sheep without a shepherd.”

Matthew 9: 32-38

I find this gospel passage very striking. Jesus and His disciples were on their way out, but they were able to welcome a dumb man and restore his speech. Jesus was never too busy to help someone in need.

The crowd was amazed by what they saw, not having witnessed anything like it before, yet the Jewish leaders thought Jesus was possessed.

Then they were told that labourers were few and shepherds were needed to guide the flock.

I am sure we have all experienced one or more of these scenarios. For example when we do the right thing, persons even close to us will find faults. What do we do, continue on the chosen path or chicken out?

The current challenge is that the right persons are necessary to get on board, in the church, other organisations and politics. We need healing in the land but also leaders who will be of the people but most of all for the people.

Let us pray to the Lord of the Harvest to send committed workers and leaders.
