“Jesus rose and followed him, and so did his disciples.”
Matthew 9:18-26
She promised to call within 24 hours to make an appointment. One week later she requested an appointment for the following day. I had plans for that day. I paused before responding.
And then I remembered these words: “While Jesus was speaking, an official came forward…Jesus rose and followed him, and so did his disciples.”
I replied that the day and time work for me.
At our meeting, she repeatedly despaired: I am tired. I heard: “If only I can touch his cloak, I shall be cured.”
In the middle of a time-sensitive project, I picked up my phone to verify facts and saw a message requiring feedback. I remembered that Jesus rose and followed. I responded immediately.
We may or may not be asked to raise the dead. We may be invited to accompany others on their journey of faith.
As we co-labour with Jesus, may we be open and receptive to His grace to imitate His accessibility, His inclusivity, His compassion, His presence, and His humility. Amen.
