Saturday June 27th: Our Healer, indeed!

“Not even in Israel have I found such faith.”

Matthew 8:5-17 

The centurion recognizes his faults and his unworthiness. However, he also knew the powers that beholds! Two main points can be considered: he confesses his sins and demonstrates astounding faith in knowing Jesus doesn’t need to be physically present to heal his paralyzed servant. He showed up! How many of us today are going through intense trauma, turmoil and struggles but still wouldn’t show up? Jesus breaks social barriers to restore humanity. “Behold I stand at the door and knock.”

Next, Jesus enters Peter’s home and touches Peter’s mother-in-law, to cure her high fever. Jesus intentionally demonstrated that the kingdom of God breaks through cultural taboos to bring restoration and dignity to those who were marginalized.

Finally, a suffering multitude gathers. Jesus drives out spirits and heals the sick, fulfilling Isaiah’s ancient prophecy: “He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.” These encounters reveal that Jesus’ power over sickness and evil is absolute, and that He actively enters into human suffering to bear the brokenness of the world. He is our healer!
