This is more than a mere healing; it is the restoration of dignity and life.
Matthew 8: 1 – 4
A leper came to Jesus and said, “Lord, if you want to, you can cure me.” In that moment, the leper challenged everything his society says about him: he is unclean, therefore, must be avoided and is excluded from social, family, and religious involvement. Yet this leper breaks all the barriers.
Jesus does not reject him, instead He stretches out his hand and touches him. This is more than a mere healing; it is the restoration of dignity and life. Jesus’ touch expresses His closeness to those who suffer and his desire to restore people.
This leper reminds us that we cannot hide our wounds, fears, sins, or failures because we are afraid of rejection or judgment. If we convince ourselves that we are beyond healing or unworthy of love, today we hear a different message. Listen again to Jesus saying to each one of us: “Of course I want to…” Whatever our need, Jesus wants to touch us and heal us.
Like this leper, we must dare to reach out to Jesus.
