“Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”
Matthew 5:43-48
Many of those who wage war today, claiming to be guided by the Bible, seem to forget this line of the Gospel, “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”
Even in everyday life we find it hard to accept. Yet, Jesus showed it could be lived when on the cross, He said “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.”
Perhaps it would be easier if we approach it by focusing on the second half- ‘pray for those who persecute you’. And within our prayer ask God for the capacity to love those who have wronged us.
