Saturday June 13th: Mary’s Fiat

Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary

With Each ‘Yes’

Matthew 5:33-37

In today’s Gospel we are told that all we need say is ‘Yes’ if we mean yes. On today’s feast day of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, we can’t help but ponder on Mary’s ‘Yes.’Her fiat. Mary’s consent made way for the Incarnation – the coming of Christ into the world as a human being.

Her words represented absolute trust in God and openness to the will of God’s plan. Her ‘Yes’ reflected her belief in the message of God carried by an angel. Mary sets the example for all of us, teaching us how we should respond to God’s call in our lives. We ask ourselves: do I say to God ‘May it be done to me according to your will’? Do I strive to understand God’s will for me each day? Do I listen for God’s message to me in the voices of the angels around me?

Lord, with the help and intercession of Mary, may I turn to you more and more with each ‘yes’ I say to you.
