Pope Leo XIV has officially accepted the resignation of Bishop Clyde Harvey as bishop of the diocese of St George’s-in-Grenada. The announcement was made on Tuesday. Metropolitan Archbishop Gabriel Malzaire of Castries has been appointed Apostolic Administrator until a new bishop is named. He is expected to visit Grenada to preside at the monthly devotion at the Marian Shrine, Battle Hill this Sunday. According to a media release from the Bishop’s Office, Bishop Harvey submitted his resignation on November 9, 2023, in keeping with the requirements of canon law, which calls on bishops to offer their resignation upon reaching the age of 75. Pope Francis did not accept the resignation and instead requested that Bishop Harvey continue serving as bishop until January 31, 2026.
He is expected to leave Grenada in a few days. Bishop Harvey and Msgr Christian Pereira will celebrate their 50th anniversary of priestly ordination on June 27 with Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
