CEBM offers prayers, support following student’s killing

Statement from the Catholic Education Board of Management following the murder of Mercedez Layne, a student at St Francis Erin RC Primary.

The Catholic Education Board of Management (CEBM) was deeply concerned when we first learned that this child had been reported missing. Throughout that difficult period, we joined with many others in prayer, hoping for her safe return. We were profoundly saddened and distressed upon learning the circumstances surrounding her discovery.

The loss of a child in such a tragic and cruel manner has shocked and grieved us all. Our heartfelt condolences, prayers, and support are extended to her family, as well as to the school and church communities that are mourning this devastating loss. We hold in a special way her grandfather and all those who were close to her during this painful time. The CEBM remains committed to supporting the affected school community. Our Quality Assurance Manager is currently visiting the school to assess its immediate needs and to determine what additional support may be required for students, staff, and families. We will continue to work closely with all stakeholders to provide the necessary care, guidance, and assistance as the school community goes through this period of profound grief and healing.
