Sunday June 7th: Connection, not division

“And if a household is divided against itself, that household can never last.”

Mark 3:20-35

Bent on discrediting his work, the scribes and Pharisees accused Jesus of working in alliance with the devil. Jesus countered their claim by using powerful parables that not only validated his work but prove to be instructive for us even today.

A house divided cannot stand. If we see signs of division and dissension and do nothing to set things right, ‘crapaud smoke we pipe.’ We were created to live in communion—with God and with one another. This union lies at the heart of our purpose: connection rather than division. We are called to foster harmony and togetherness.

A bonded family, a unified system, or a synodal church are ideals for which we should strive instead of accepting what is substandard. However, the adversary we face employs subtle deceptions to sow discord and separation in our lives. These influences can be difficult to recognize, gradually leading us away from our purpose.

Lord, open our eyes to recognize the ploys of the evil one seeking to steal and destroy. Help us to strive to eradicate division.
