Sunday May 24th: Breathe T&T, Christ is with us!

Saturday May 23rd: “Lord, what about him?”

“If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? Follow me!”

John 21:20-25

In a world where people are often judged, excluded, or compared, Jesus teaches that true discipleship is about faithfulness, service, and respect for the dignity of others, not competition or privilege. Peter’s question, “Lord, what about him?” reflects a common human tendency to compare ourselves to others, seeking validation. We often find ourselves competing with one another in our home, neighbourhood, the workplace and yes, the parish.

Jesus reminds us to focus on following Him, being a missionary disciple. In this time of Synodality, the Church invites us to “walk together,” listening to every voice and recognizing that all have a role in God’s mission. The beloved disciple’s testimony shows the importance of listening to individual experiences and truths within the community.

Our commitment to social justice in our parish grows when we value one another’s stories, defend human dignity, and work together for inclusion and equality. Like the disciples, Christians are called not to compare journeys, but to unite in following Christ through compassion, justice, and shared responsibility.

Lord Jesus, thank you for challenging us to trust in God’s plan for each person, recognizing that our journeys are distinct and purposeful.
