“Eternal life is this, to know the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom He sent.”

John 17:1-11

Baffled by uncertainty
We lose sight of the paradox that is eternity.
We striving to achieve eternal life only at life’s end,
But we must experience it in the here and now too, dear friend!

So, Lord, show us how to know the one true God up above
Creator, Lover, Bestower of every good gift wrapped in love;
To see Jesus whom He sent, in the disenfranchised and dejected,
And respond with love and concern, their dignity respected;
To perceive the oneness of the Father and the Son,
And yearn to be caught up with them as one.
Accepting our nothingness in humility,
Are these not experiences of eternity?

Jesus, you said we are a love-gift to you from your Father.
That in itself is encouragement for us to live life better.
So, when life’s challenges beset us and we fall prey to the enemy,
Remind us that your plan for us is to experience eternity,
Beginning here and now, and then in the hereafter
With the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit we will live forever.
