Saturday May 16th: The power of the name of Jesus

“Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.”

John 16:23-28

Jesus confidently assures His disciples that He has prepared them for life without His physical presence. He knows that He will soon ascend to His Father in Heaven, but He is not abandoning them. In fact, the disciples will soon learn of the power of the name of Jesus, because of their faithfulness to Him during His public ministry.

Similarly, Jesus wants us to be assured of the power of His name. When we give praise and call on the name of Jesus; when we make our petitions in the name of Jesus, there is a wonder-working power that is manifested and in which we can claim unfathomed victory. But we must do so with unwavering faith – a faith that is born of the Holy Spirit.

We do not dare to pray in our own name, but only in the name of Jesus, and the Father in His Love, will hear and answer us.
As we prepare to celebrate Jesus’ Ascension into Heaven, let us also ascend with Him in fervent prayer.
