Friday May 15th: Living in Hope

Our hope is not empty; it is anchored in Jesus who will never disappoint us.

John 16: 20 – 23

In today’s gospel, Jesus tells His disciples, “You will weep and mourn, but your sorrow will turn into joy.” These words acknowledge a truth we all know: life brings pain, loss, and uncertainty. Even the disciples, who walked with Jesus daily, faced fear and grief at His departure. Yet in the midst of sorrow, Jesus offers a promise that fulfills our deepest hope: sorrow is temporary, and joy is coming.

This promise transforms hope from wishful thinking into confident expectation. Jesus assures us that our prayers will be heard, that our longings and pains matter to God, and that He will not abandon us. Like the dawn after a long night, His joy comes steadily and surely, turning our grief into new life.

Today, we are invited to live in this hope. Even when trials weigh heavy, we can trust that Christ’s love will fulfill the promise of joy. Our hope is not empty; it is anchored in Jesus who will never disappoint us. Trust in Jesus especially when we are distressed.
