‘I still have many things to say to you’
John 16: 12–15
Jesus is speaking to his disciples at the Last Supper when he knows that his passion and death are imminent. He informs them that he still has many things to say to them and the Spirit of truth will lead them to the complete truth.
This is akin to a parent on the death bed giving the children some final advice. The parent knows that the children have much more to learn but informs them that they will find out more after the death, as knowledge will come from the Holy Spirit through their priests, teachers, and reliable leaders.
Jesus passed on to them what the Father has given him and has become his own. He told them this: Everything the Father has is mine. They will learn more through the intervention of the Holy Spirit.
Lord, may the Holy Spirit fill us with wisdom that we may pass on to all whom we encounter.
