In observance of Guyana’s Diamond Anniversary of Independence this year, A Festival of Flowers will be held at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Brickdam, Monday May 25 and Tuesday 26.
Parishes and professional florists have been invited to decorate different parts of the Cathedral.
The Festival of Flowers will be open to the public on both days and there will be live music during most of the two days. “Admission is free, but donations may be made for the upkeep of the Cathedral,” said a Catholic Standard article.
With Tuesday, May 26 being a national holiday, it is hoped that this will enable many visitors to view the displays. The last Festival of Flowers was held at the Cathedral 11 years ago to mark the centenary of the laying of the foundation of the Cathedral. This event is only held to mark significant milestones in history.
