He offers His life on the cross, showing that true love holds nothing back.
John 15: 12 -17
In today’s gospel, Jesus gives us a command that is both simple and demanding: “Love one another as I have loved you.” He does not speak of a shallow or convenient love, but of a love that gives itself completely. He says: “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” Genuine love is always sacrificial.
Jesus does not merely teach this love, He embodies it. In His life, He gives His time, His compassion, His very self to others. Ultimately, He offers His life on the cross, showing that true love holds nothing back. This is the measure of love He sets before us.
Such love challenges us. It calls us to move beyond comfort, to forgive when it is difficult, to serve without expecting return, and to remain faithful even when it costs us something. In loving this way, we reflect Christ Himself. May we learn to love not just in words, but in sacrifice, as He has loved us.
