“I have told you this so that my own joy may be in you and your joy be complete.”
John 15:9-11
This passage provides deep insight into what love is and how, as Christians, we ought to be fulfilling this. We all have sought love throughout our lives as children, and certainly as adults. Very often we feel satisfied when we receive things. The question however is, does that bring us joy?
Jesus wished to give His own peace to His troubled disciples, as He is giving us the assurance that His love is constant and everlasting.
I now better understand why Jesus had to leave for the Holy Spirit to be sent to radiate that joy in our hearts from this Trinitarian love. The deepest joys and satisfactions of life have to do with our own experience of loving and being loved. St Francis exhibited this well by the way he loved and cherished all of God’s creation. He further manifested it by saying that it is in giving that we receive. In other words, if you want joy in your life show love, “so that your joy may be complete.”
Pray daily for joy through love.
