Aileen Ramdeen died on April 16 at the age of 94. Her funeral service was held April 25 at St Finbar’s RC Church, Diego Martin. The following tribute was submitted by her son Dennis Ramdeen, on behalf of the family.
Aileen Ramdeen was a devoted Catholic whose life was rooted in faith, service, and compassion. For over 30 years, she was a faithful parishioner of St Finbar’s Catholic Church, where her quiet strength and devotion touched many lives.
Aileen had a deep passion for community service. As an active member of the Society of St Vincent de Paul, she dedicated herself to serving; whether through preparing Christmas hampers, organising clothing drives, or delivering food on Sundays. Her generosity knew no bounds.
Aileen was a strong woman who forged her own path in life, not without challenges, but always with determination and grace. Her faith sustained her as a single parent, raising her four children with love, discipline, and purpose. She took immense pride in her family, including her three sons who graduated from Fatima College, an achievement that brought her joy and gratitude.
Aileen was a longtime resident of Dolphin Court, Westmoorings, and played a meaningful role in her community as Treasurer of Dolphin Court Limited during the early years of development. She gave not only her time but her heart to building a supportive and caring environment.
In her spare time, Aileen wore many hats. She was a skilled seamstress and had a long stint sewing for J’Ouvert bands and was always available for adjusting Carnival costumes.
She loved football, Malvern was her team; and Renegades her steelband. Test cricket found her in the stands, as did many other local and international sporting events. But perhaps the thing she is best known for is her pepper sauce, which became a must have for those going abroad and a staple in the Ramdeen circle.
For many years she was the driver that got children to and from school, her family, and others. Her open-door policy to anyone in need was legendary, taking in people for days, months and sometimes years.
Aileen worked tirelessly for her family and community. Her legacy is one of love, sacrifice, resilience, and faith.
‘Yaggy’, as she was known to her grandchildren, will be missed by her children; Elizabeth, John, Keith, and Dennis, along with their spouses, her 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren and her many friends.
Aileen, you gave so much of yourself to others. Now, may you find eternal rest in the loving arms of Our Lord.
