“Anyone who does eat my flesh and drink my blood has eternal life and I shall raise that person up on the last day.”
John 6: 52 – 59
In today’s gospel we meet a doubtful crowd. They ask, how can Jesus give us his flesh to eat? This is not only difficult to understand, but it also sounds absolutely absurd. They cannot see how Jesus could offer Himself as food, as the Bread of Life.
The passage challenges us to examine: Where do we stand? Are we with the crowd who find it impossible to believe that Jesus could be our Bread of Life? Or are we among those who stayed, who believed, who trusted?
Jesus invites us to see Him, not as a mere symbol, but as real food and real drink. Without Him we will not have life. Without Him we will not be sustained. Without Him we will not endure.
Faith often precedes understanding. We are simply asked to trust and believe. Jesus does not force; He invites us to believe. It is up to us. If we trust Jesus, eventually we will come to understand the truth of His words and self-offering.
