Friday April 10th: An Invitation to Trust

‘Throw the net out to starboard and you’ll find something.’

John 21: 1 – 14

In today’s gospel the disciples return to the sea. Their hearts are heavy with grief after Jesus’ death. They fish all night, yet their nets are empty, symbolic of their own emptiness. Easter does not instantly erase loss, fear, or disappointment. Life still feels hard; the morning still feels empty.

But at daybreak, Jesus appears on the shore. He does not remove their struggle; he invites them to act, to trust, to follow Him. When they cast the net on His word, their catch is abundant. Suddenly their emptiness is no longer overwhelming, it is transformed. The failure of the night becomes a moment of blessing. Their hearts, once weighed down by grief, are filled with hope and purpose.

Easter meets us in our real-life struggles. Our pain, our emptiness, our nights of disappointment are not ignored. Like the disciples, we are called to notice Jesus in the ordinary, to obey his guidance, and allow him to transform our emptiness into abundance, to allow Him to bring us into new life.
