“Stay with us, Lord.”
Luke 24:13-35
The various resurrection stories are always interesting and sometimes even dramatic. Today’s story is no different. Two of the disciples are journeying towards Emmaus, traumatized, and confused with what happened a few days ago in Jerusalem. Like all the rest they never expected the end to be that way.
Here they were joined by this stranger, who was able to explain to them all the scriptures concerning the Christ. They were impressed. They wanted to hear more, so that when He appeared to be moving on further, they begged Him to stay.
Each one of us has an Emmaus story as we experience life’s challenges. We are so engrossed with what is happening we often fail to recognize Jesus in our midst. We often wonder why He deserted us and therefore beg Him to come and be with us. At least the disciples recognized Him in the breaking of bread. In our case, how do we recognize Him?
As we go through this day let us ask Jesus not only to be with us but allow us the ability to always acknowledge His presence.
