Monday April 6th: When Fear meets Truth

Encountering God’s power can prompt a rection of fear which can either lead to joyous comfort… or to selfish resistance.

Matthew 28: 8-15

Faced with the truth of the resurrection the women leave the tomb with a striking mix of emotions: fear and joy even as they determine to spread the good news. In contrast, that same truth for the guards and religious leaders, is a threat. Their Fear encourages bribery and fake news.

Jesus meets and greets the women with peace. He was close enough for them to kneel and worship Him. He then redirects them with a message for the brothers.

The religious leaders on the other hand, control the resurrection narrative with lies for their self-preservation. They in turn, direct the guards to spread a message of deception to the Jews.

Jesus’ resurrection demands a personal response to the invitation to choose Trust, Courage, and Transformation, not Denial, Deception and Resistance.

We pray, Lord, grant us Faith that accepts truth despite fear, and give us Trust that makes us bear witness with joy. Amen.
