Friday March 27th: Welcome the truth of Christ

Lent invites us to examine our own resistance to Jesus.

John 10: 31 – 42

In the gospel, the tension between Jesus and the religious leaders reaches a breaking point. They pick up stones to kill him because he calls God his Father and reveals Himself as the Son of God. Jesus answers calmly, pointing to His works: deeds of compassion, healing, and truth that testify to who He is. Yet their hearts remain closed. They cannot accept a God who looks so ordinary.

Lent invites us to examine our own resistance to Jesus. We may not throw stones, but we often keep Him at a distance. We prefer a comfortable faith that does not challenge our attitudes or change our priorities. Jesus asks us to look honestly at His works. Do we recognise Him in the poor, the suffering, and the call to forgiveness?

When opposition grew, Jesus withdrew beyond the Jordan where many believed in him. Faith found space to grow where hearts were open. As we continue this Lenten journey, may we put aside fear and pride, welcome the truth of Christ, and allow His works to transform us.
