“In all truth I tell you, whoever keeps my word will never see death.”
John 8:51-59
Never seeing death. Isn’t this a wonderful sentiment? I’m speaking literally of course. Obviously, the Jews also took Jesus literally. They didn’t understand the death that Jesus was alluding to: A death of faith and favor. A death of a life of purpose. A death of our light…or rather, Christ’s light within us.
Are we willing to do what it takes to never see this death? We experience these deaths, because of wanting to live life our own way. Today Jesus urges us to “Keep My Word.”
Keeping God’s word in this time of trials and distractions, is hard. It’s a battle ground for our souls.
Our paths are riddled with snares, trip wires, and booby traps around every corner. It takes a lot of effort, skill, and discipline to stay on track. Hard as this fight may be, we must be alert and focus on keeping God’s word. Let us encourage each other to hold on to Jesus who is THE WORD.
His promise is Eternal Life… in our Spirit.
