‘Glorifying God in Art’ Holy Week art exhibition at St Finbar’s

By Kathy-Ann Mackay, artist

I have felt the call of God on my life since early childhood. My earliest encounter with Him took place when I was three years old, scared and confused. My mother loved the Lord and would daily audibly cry out to Him with prayers which came from her heart. She taught me to love God and to pray by her example. The Catholic Church was her pillar of support. There were 12 of us, and we all steadfastly made the first five Sacraments under her care.

My father appeared to be a non-believer, yet he supported my mother in bringing up his children in the Catholic faith. He was tough but had many outstanding characteristics that set him apart. In the end, he gave his life to Jesus on his death bed. I am eternally grateful to God. He chose me to lead the prayer. What can I say? The journey has not been an easy one, nonetheless, it has been filled with love. I have come to understand the meaning of family, and moreover, Jesus’ prayer to Our Father in Heaven before He died, “Father, may they be one”. Jesus was praying for us to become one family with God.

God calls each of us to Himself, but most of the time, most of us are too busy to listen. I am asking you this Holy Week to make the time to listen to God. He wants you to draw closer to Him, to get to know Him and experience His Love in all its fullness. This has been my passion… that through my work as an artist and writer, others may know the Embrace of God. ‘Glorifying God in Art’ Holy Week Exhibition conveys this. It is a culmination of my three previous exhibitions: Revelation of God the Father (2009), Revelation of God the Son (2018) and Revelation of God the Holy Spirit (2020)—over 100 works of art in prints, and books.

It opens on Palm Sunday and continues throughout Holy Week then closes on Easter Monday. It is being hosted at the St Finbar’s RC Church Auditorium, Morne Coco Road, Four Roads, Diego Martin from 7.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. On Good Friday, it opens 2 p.m. Entrance is free.

I am looking forward to seeing all my brothers and sisters of the Roman Catholic faith (like Jubilee), Christian Churches and the nation of Trinidad and Tobago. May God bless you all.
