John 8:21-30
The essence of spiritual life is found in our “tether”—the source of our connection and authority. Just as truth produces life, Christ identifies as the Way, Truth, and Life.
Following his example requires a fundamental shift in orientation. Jesus highlights that the distance between himself and the world is not geographic but spiritual; he is “from above,” while the world is “from below.”
To bridge this gap, we must mimic the perfect obedience of Mary and Jesus, both of
whom prioritized the Father’s mission over independent will. Mary pondered God’s word in her heart, and Jesus spoke only what the Father taught him. This level of trust requires us to live by faith rather than sight, looking past “real-time” physical
circumstances to see the transformation occurring in the spirit.
Ultimately, our existence should reveal a noticeable change in who we are connected to. Just as a phone relies on a tether for connectivity, our souls require a divine tether to access God’s presence. Without a change of heart, we remain anchored to a worldly realm that cannot sustain true life.
