“Neither do I condemn you.”
John 8:1-11
“Let those who are among you who have no sin cast the first stone.” This statement by Jesus, echoes throughout time and calls for a thorough examination of our own consciences. None of us is qualified to judge without mercy. We are, however, required to encourage each other toward holiness.
Alone with the woman Jesus tells her, “Neither do I condemn you,” but he commands her to go and sin no more. It is in our intimate time with Jesus where we realize we are never sinless nor blameless, that he frees us from the prison of guilt and heals the wounds of our souls. We all need the healing power of the Sacrament of Reconciliation which restores our relationship with God and the Church.
Let today’s Gospel empower us for holy living much like Jesus’ encounter with the adulterous woman did for her.
