Wednesday March 18th: A common mission

We are called to work together with our gifts as the Father and Son work in harmony.

John 5:17-30

I remember, once in my career, the line minister sent me a list of twenty-four names to give small grants from the programme I was managing. When I followed the procedure/criteria and only a few qualified, he was upset and sought thereafter to remove me as manager of the grants. He succeeded. My values did not coincide with what he wanted. My family upbringing and my teachers, academic and spiritual, had instilled in me gospel values.

Just as the Father shows all he is doing to his Son who will do even greater works, we too are being challenged by the Father to follow the word and works of Jesus, his Son, with the promise of “eternal life.” The work of the Father is the work of the Son and vice versa. They are in communion – in union for a common mission.

So too, in our church, we are called to work together with our gifts as the Father and Son work in harmony in the mission of saving the world.
