“There are still a couple of months of consistent work to bring it to completion,” said Postulator for the Cause, Fr Christopher Lumsden. He shared this update in response to questions from The Catholic News on the status of the cause which officially opened in 2013. Since then, it has continued “steadily and methodically over the years”.
The Secretariat Office for the Cause of Beatification and Canonisation of Archbishop Gordon Anthony Pantin was established four years ago at St Theresa’s RC Church, Woodbrook. Fr Lumsden said, “At this stage all his letters, ‘Ask Me Another’, the weekly articles in The Catholic News, sermons, letters to organisations and individuals, have been transcribed, photocopied and to be bound and prepared for submission to Rome. Also, witness testimonies and all other relevant documents, theological censors reviewed his writings, and they have all found it to be in keeping with faith and morals of the Catholic Church. He was a prolific writer.”
Fr Lumsden added, “When documents are sent to Rome, they are reviewed and when found worthy of sainthood, he will be declared as Venerable.”
Fr Lumsden urged Catholic faithful to continuously pray for the miracle which would cause the late Archbishop to be called ‘Blessed’, and a second miracle needed for canonisation. The 26th anniversary of Archbishop Pantin’s death was marked on Thursday, March 12. —LPG
