“You will only believe if you see signs and portents.”
John 4:43-54
Riding high on his successes among the Samaritans, Jesus returned to Cana in Galilee, where he had given his first sign. He was approached by a royal official with the request to cure his son who was dying.
Knowing he was not accepted in his hometown, Jesus remarked that the official would want a sign before he believed. Perhaps he was testing the man’s sincerity. Undaunted by Jesus’ seemingly dismissive response, the official insisted that Jesus go to his home and cure his son. He truly believed Jesus could save him and he was not to be deterred. His belief in the power of Jesus enabled the boy to be cured.
We too are called to put our faith in Jesus even when things get rough, even when we are at our wits end. We must be confident that he will never let us down but will give us the courage to face our trials with hope, trusting in the power of his word.
Thank you, Lord.
