Jesus heals a blind man sending him to wash in the water of the pool of Siloam. This is a further help to us as we journey to Easter when we will renew our baptismal commitment or, for those in the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA), will be baptised.
The blind man could see again after the water of Siloam touched him. In the waters of Baptism, we begin the journey of living with Christian vision, seeing as the Lord sees and not as the world sees and living accordingly.
The blind man does not only receive his physical sight but sees things differently—he moves from seeing Jesus as “the man called Jesus’, (v 11) to seeing Him as a prophet and then recognising Him as “Lord” and worships Him (v 38).
At our Baptism, the minister said as a candle was lit, “You have been enlightened by Christ.” We examine ourselves, the choices and judgements we make in our words and actions—are they made with the light of Christ, with a Christian vision or not? Where do I need conversion so that I may say ‘yes’ to the Lord at Easter?
Pray that the Lord will continue to clear our vision so that more and more we may see as Jesus sees and with that Christian vision live in this world until we come to the next and see perfectly.
