An appeal from the Society of St Vincent de Paul
As we journey through the sacred season of Lent, the Church calls us to prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, offered with humble and contrite hearts. This year, Catholic Christians and all people of goodwill are invited to consider the Society of St Vincent de Paul (SSVP) as one of your chosen charitable organisations for Lenten almsgiving.
Nigel Phillip, National Council President of the SSVP in Trinidad and Tobago, is appealing to faithful to stand in solidarity with families, children, the elderly, and migrants who are experiencing hardship. During Lent, even the smallest sacrifice—a dollar saved, a meal shared, a voucher donated—can become a powerful act of mercy.
Founded in Paris in 1833 and established in Trinidad and Tobago in 1857, the Society has served the poor and vulnerable for over 160 years. Through parish-based Conferences, Vincentians quietly and faithfully provide food hampers, rental assistance, medical support, shelter, and compassionate accompaniment to those in crisis.
How you can give this Lent:
Your Lenten sacrifice can help:
If you need help
If you or someone you know is experiencing hardship, please speak with your parish priest, who can connect you with a trusted SSVP member. Assistance is offered confidentially and with dignity.
This Lent, let your almsgiving be intentional. Let it be local. Let it change lives.
