We need to be mindful and create the space to observe ourselves…
Matthew 18:21-35
The King’s servant was just offered kindness and mercy from the King when the King forgave the debt he owed. As soon as this servant went out into the world, he acted in the exact opposite way with someone who owed him a debt. His behaviour was so reprehensible that ‘his fellow servants were deeply distressed when they saw what had happened.’
One possible explanation is that this servant failed to see himself, to objectively assess his actions, his words, his thoughts. Do we too sometimes fail to self-reflect? We need to be mindful and create for ourselves the space to observe ourselves and to ask ourselves the question ‘why.’ If we don’t, we would also fail to see how our behaviour affects others, and we would repeat toxic patterns in our lives. We would be living with blindfolds on, operating on auto pilot because we are fearful of the painful process of realisation and change.
Lord, may I forgive myself as you so readily forgive me, so that I can have the courage to change.
