“While he was still far off, his father saw him…”
Luke 15: 1-3, 11-32
Lent can feel like spiritual housekeeping: sweeping out habits, dusting off prayers, and facing corners we ignored. In the middle of that, Jesus tells a story where the biggest surprise isn’t the son who wastes everything—it’s the Father who runs. No long lecture. No “I told you so.” Just arms open, breathless mercy.
And then there’s the older brother—doing the “right things,” but tight in the heart. Lent isn’t only about returning from far away; it’s also about softening when we’ve been “near” but not really joyful.
“While he was still far off, his father saw him…”
Jesus, help me come home honestly—and celebrate when others do too.
