“A great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us”.
Luke 16: 19-31
A few years ago, I faced one of the most traumatic experiences I never dreamt possible. Someone very close to me was incarcerated for three weeks for taking what was owed in an unlawful manner.
During this period, I watched the one world I knew torn apart, creating a chasm that could not be crossed. The weekly visits to this terrifying world thrusted me into a whirlpool of emotions that left me grappling to hold on to my faith in God.
God began shifting my gaze from my own personal trauma to the trauma of the prisoners and their families, many of whom freedom was not in the horizon; to the prison officers and their families who experience the heaviness of this environment daily.
I pass often by the prisons and to this day, I pray a prayer inspired by the Holy Spirit: Most precious Blood of Jesus Christ, save the prisoners and the whole world.
Thank you, Jesus, for transforming the trauma into intercession. Amen.
