Wednesday March 4th: How Do We Serve?

Serving God is tricky.

Mathew 20:17-28

Serving God is tricky. We have to be so careful. Are we doing it for the right reasons? Are we feeding our ego? Or is it just performative?

I will humbly suggest we take a look at a dictionary meaning of the word performative; “done or expressed insincerely or in-authentically, typically with the intention of impressing others or improving one’s own image.”

We have to be examining our motives and constantly be evaluating our effectiveness. This requires a great deal of self- awareness and humility. Are we joining too many groups so we would not be lonely? Can we truly and effectively serve so many groups? How many clashes do we have, so we can’t attend training sessions and meetings.

Are we training our successors? Are we even identifying them? Are we giving up leadership roles gladly at the end of our term?

This Lent, let us ask The Holy Spirit for Spiritual and emotional maturity.
