“Then the devil left him, and suddenly angels appeared and looked after him.”
Matthew 4:1-11
Our Gospel passage today reveals a powerful truth… the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. When temptation comes our way, let us choose to believe we are being led by the Holy Spirit into a divine appointment.
Then, with hearts steeped in Sacred Scripture, and wills aligned with God’s, let us use our connections with God to choose inclusivity, simplicity, and service.
Like Jesus, let us resist the tempter and surrender to what “is written…”
As we journey through Lent, let us enter each test, believing the Spirit leads us to encounter God, not defeat. Let us trade bacchanal for biblical focus and find strength in God’s Word. Then “the angels will minister” to us, just as they ministered to Jesus.
