“Who is This?”
Mark 4:35-41
Jesus was in a boat crossing the Sea of Galilee. Exhausted, he fell asleep. A violent storm arose at sea and the disciples thought they could handle it.
Sometimes, when problems arise, we seek to solve them ourselves. We may consult experts but truly believe we’d manage… until things spiral out of control. Then FEAR hijacks reason and challenges the very character of God, stifling faith, cancelling trust.
We wonder if Jesus is seeing our struggle, hearing our cries… if He’s at all concerned. FEAR then erupts with: “Lord, don’t you care?” Jesus heard those voices above all the chaos. He awoke. Commanded the storm and it ceased. Then He asked His disciples, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
Witnessing this miracle, their FEAR was replaced by terror: a confused and mystifying awe in the Presence of the great Supernatural Power and Authority. FEAR of GOD “Who is this?” This is Jesus, Emmanuel: Omni-present; Jesus: Omni-Potent, unfailing in power, goodness, and compassion. Jesus: Omni-scient, knowing all things and doing only good. Jesus: The One who Cares.
