Young people from across the Archdiocese and from St Vincent, gathered on Saturday, January 10 for a powerful youth experience at the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Caribbean Conference 2026, held at the Centre of Excellence, Macoya, Tunapuna. The event, themed Journey to the Oasis, was inspired by the conference theme from Isaiah 44:3–4: “For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground…my blessing on your children.”
Designed as both a spiritual encounter and a reflective journey, the youth experience led participants through the symbolism of the “drylands” of life—places of uncertainty, struggle, and searching—toward renewal, healing, and hope in Christ.
Through a carefully guided process of reflection and activities, the young people were invited to prepare the “soil” of their hearts, so they could be planted and rooted firmly in Christ and made ready for the outpouring and overflow of God’s blessings.
The day featured vibrant praise and worship led by the young adult music ministry, Southern Vines, that created a joyful and prayerful atmosphere, alongside dynamic talks delivered by young people who shared faith-filled messages rooted in real-life experiences.
A highlight of the programme was having our seminarians present to engage, chat and share their experiences with our young people. Seminarian Zeno Fungoh from Cameroon shared on growing in the light of Christ, and a powerful testimony by brother seminarian, Rafael Vola from Suriname brought life to the teaching.
A dance by Laventille Morvant Pastoral Area (LMPA) Dance Ministry reminded us of God’s constant presence and provision as we continue to journey.
Moments of ministry and heartfelt testimonies further enriched the experience, as many youths ministered to others through their gifts and talents. Fr Mikkel Trestrail was available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
The flow of the programme mirrored the scriptural theme, moving from reflection and preparation to renewal and mission.
As we move into a new year, the ‘Journey to the Oasis’ stands as a meaningful reminder that when hearts are prepared and rooted in Christ, God’s spirit brings life, growth, and abundant blessing for the next generation—just as promised in Isaiah’s words. —Carynn Chen
