The Baptism of the Lord
“This is my Son, the Beloved; my favour rests on him.”
Matthew 3: 13-17
Michael row the boat ashore….and bring all God’s children back home to the Jordan.
All God’s children belong. We don’t have to do anything to belong. Just be submerged in the holy waters of baptism and be ready for full catastrophe living: a life of trauma, plenty disasters, and joy.
Like Jesus, we are baptized: priest, prophet, and king.
Every mountain is a priest, every valley a prophet. The whole forest is a king.
Every woman is a priest; even though the Roman Curia say ‘not at this time;’ every man is a prophet, when he is good and ready. Every child and young person is a blessed bearer of the seed of the divine kingdom.
The waters of baptism renew the whole of creation. The Beetham dump will sparkle like diamonds; the clogged Caroni will flow like a living spring; and the rain will trickle down blessings from the mountain. The homeless will discover that they too belong.
Baptism is the homecoming. When we ready, we all come back home.
