Saturday January 10th: A Purposeful Life

Our purpose is destined from heaven.

John 3: 22-30

This Gospel passage is about living a purposeful life. Our purpose is destined ‘from heaven.’  John knew his purpose from his first encounter with Jesus when both were still in the womb. He lived his purpose by being the forerunner of the long-awaited Messiah. He fasted and prayed to prepare for his purposeful life. John’s actions all aligned to his call from God.

What God had set John aside to do, was fulfilled in that wonderful meeting between him and Jesus at Jesus’ baptism. John articulated his purpose to his disciples and all who would hear. He kept saying he was not the Christ but was sent to prepare the way for the Christ. He was consistent in his words and actions. He did not allow himself to be distracted but rather, kept living his truth that Jesus must grow greater and he must grow smaller.

If we too, open ourselves to God’s purpose for us, we, like John will be glad, feel joy and feel a sense of completion in our lives.
