Thursday January 8th: Anointed for Mission

‘The spirit of the Lord has been given to me.’

Luke 4: 14-22

Jesus had come to his hometown and went into the synagogue on the Sabbath. Here, he was given the scroll of the prophet Isaiah and began to read the passage which started, ” The spirit of the Lord has been given to me, for he has anointed me.”

There are occasions that we go to Mass on the Sabbath, and we encounter a celebrant whose homily reminds us that we are to help the poor, assist the migrants, and he opens our eyes to see the oppressed in our community.

We were reminded that the year of the Jubilee is the Lord’s year of favour.

When we hear such preaching, we realise that the preacher is inspired by the Spirit of the Lord.

Lord, send us priests and Church leaders who will motivate us to do what you commanded, to love our neighbour as ourselves.
